It’s hard to reinvent the wheel for writing utensils, especially in an age where the art of handwriting is slowly obscured by digital equivalents. Take, for instance, the pencil, which has been adopted to iterate the function of a mouse or stylus, but not so much on the writing front. Enter the PENXO, which quite literally revolutionizes the mechanical pencil – lead and all – through its Red Dot Award-winning design. Designed by Brian Tientak Tong, each PENXO is crafted from a single piece of aircraft-grade aluminum, and makes use of a pressure-triggered central window gap that holds a 2mm stick of lead. By using a unibody, the PENXO does away with problematic internal mechanisms, simultaneously allowing writers to view their lead supply simply and easily. After obliterating its initial funding goal, PENXO is now available via Kickstarter now.
