As a subsidiary to the Paul Smith family, the brand’s Red Ear collection has remained somewhat of an oddity and has been kept relatively low key despite making notable progress since establishment. Designed as a physical extension to Paul Smith’s love of workwear, the collection is a niche outlet aimed at “representing an authentic modern take on traditional workwear and Japanese fabrics.” Across the entire collection, each piece retains a distinctly utilitarian appeal with a focus on hard-wearing indigo fabrics and woven print textiles that attribute themselves to a distinct Japanese influence. Consisting of a number of patchwork pieces including a Sashiko Check pack, Paneled Worker Trousers and delicately printed indigo pieces, the collection remains understated despite sharing an affinity with such pattern work. Paul Smith has also included a number of tie-dye pieces in a variety of deep hues as well as a selection of basic products such as printed T-shirts, loopback-cotton sweatshirts and a range of raw selvedge denim. The Paul Smith 2015 Spring/Summer Red Ear collection is now available at Paul Smith.
