Malvern East Residence by Pleysier Perkins

It is without a doubt a challenge to modernize old homes, as the traditional elegance and charm of heritage structures are often lost in translation during stages of design planning as well as execution. Situated in Melbourne, Australia, lies the heritage Gascoigne Estate of the Malvern East Residence, a classic Edwardian villa that recently got updated with contemporary fixings by Australian architecture firm Pleysier Perkins. Constructed with a mix of fine materials like marble, bluestone, zinc and concrete blockwork, the two-storey space features all-white interiors and timber flooring, and houses an open-plan living room, a study, a guest room, a master bedroom with ensuite, and a double garage. Outside, the pavilion and first floor are wrapped in a zinc fascia that unifies the two floors together. An open laggia features white marble walls and clean lines that extend to expansive views and lush gardens off the home’s terrace. A circular vent in the ceiling makes for a beautiful display in the entry hall with its planted tree extending through the opening. The backyard was designed and landscaped in collaboration with Jack Merlo Design, and holds a pristine plunge pool, patio furniture, planted courtyards, green lawns surrounded by vine-clad walls, which only elevates the stunning home’s sense of luxury living.
