Architectural practice act_romegialli was given the task of adding a pool to an existing 19th century residence in Northern Italy. Rather than constructing a conventional outdoor solution, the firm opted to go for an elaborate subterranean pavilion which housed an indoor pool among other features. The structure’s exterior was carefully designed to blend in with the surrounding topography, yet when accessed from the outdoors it’s hard not to notice the beautiful glazed facade that sits across a small artificial lake. The sunken sanctuary features a minimalist interior complete with ceramic tiles, concrete, stone and complementary touches of wood, and is connected to the main house through an underground pathway. Though the main attraction is the uniquely-shaped pool, other amenities include fitness facilities, a relaxing lounge with extensive views of the garden, and a fully-equipped kitchen.
