Watch a Young Kanye West Rap With His Mom

Kanye West loved and still loves his mom. As his biggest supporter and best friend, Donda West shaped the talented artist into who he is today. We wouldn’t have Kanye without Donda, and that’s just fact.

Throughout his career Kanye has shown his admiration and love for his mom in many ways. He named his creative agency after her; closed his 2008 album 808s and Heartbreaks with a deeply profound statement addressed to her (“Goodbye my friend, I will never love again” Kanye said on “Coldest Winter”); described his recent single “Only One,” as his mother singing to daughter North West through him; and, of course, “Hey Mama.”

Now, video of Kanye and his mom rapping together in a kitchen has surfaced, and it’s sure to leave you in tears. Taken from an MTV special detailing the making of Late Registration, the clip features the two talking about a rap Kanye came up with, followed by the two singing “Hey Mama” together. It’s simultaneously beautiful and sad: another glimpse into a relationship that still means so much to Kanye.
