For most, the teaser for Ant-Man didn’t quite pack the punch that, say, the teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy did. Marvel has released the first official full-length trailer to the Peyton Reed-directed film today, and chances are, it’ll leave a much better impression than what was previously shown.
In our second look at the insect-sized hero, we get a good sense of the heist element surrounding the plot as we watch Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) infiltrate Pym Industries, plus a better understanding of Hope Van Dyne’s (Evangeline Lilly) role, which is to groom Lang to be a worthy successor to her father, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). We also get our fill of impressive action sequences that show off Ant-Man’s powers and agility, an army of ants being recruited as allies, and a great look at Corey Stoll donning the menacing Yellowjacket suit that’s going to give our protagonist a real run for his money in what appears to be an epic showdown (Thomas the Tank Engine has never looked more threatening).
Overall, the trailer is a major improvement compared to the underwhelming teaser. Rudd is looking pretty good so far, though it’s still a little hard to say whether he’ll pull off the hero’s more serious side considering the lines we hear from him are mostly comedic. Stoll seems like he’ll be the one to steal the show given the aggression and vigor behind his delivery, so he’s definitely the one to watch.
Ant-Man hits theaters on July 17.
