After the massively successful Kickstarter campaign for TLC went public, more and more artists are taking to the funding platform to get their own creative projects rolling. 20 years ago, Raekwon’s debut album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx released and it immediately became an acclaimed classic. Today, the Wu-Tang member seeks to create his own documentary on the making of the album to celebrate the work’s anniversary so, he has taken the Kickstarter route to get the wheels turning. The documentary, titled The Purple Tape Files, is said to feature “never before seen imagery that drove the album’s cult classic status.” Funding for the film is available here and the incentives for donating range from Purple Tape stickers to 5 years of VIP access to any of Raekwon’s shows. Finally, if you drop $4000, you can spend the day with some unnamed but highly influential hip-hop figures — we will leave you to speculate. Will you fund this project?
