Microsoft‘s digital assistant Cortana will soon be available on a wider selection of operating systems as a standalone app. Named after a character in the popular video games series Halo, Cortana has been available on Windows phones for a year, and will also be able to run on desktops when Windows 10 arrives later this fall. In addition, Cortana will come to phones and tablets powered by iOS and Android. Microsoft is also looking to advance the program’s functionality by incorporating findings from an artificial intelligence project dubbed “Einstein” that includes advanced speech recognition, as well as search and machine learning that will make it the first program of its kind that actually anticipates users’ needs. Stay tuned for more information about Cortana’s availability as it becomes available.
