During Monday’s Apple Watch event, it was announced that HBO‘s new standalone streaming service will launch exclusively on Apple TV next month. To celebrate, the network’s CEO, Richard Plepler, treated Game of Thrones fans to the second trailer for the critically-acclaimed show’s fifth season, which will premiere on April 12.
In our second look at the world of Westeros, there’s A LOT going on. Daenerys, Daario, and the Unsullied seem to have their hands full, so while the Mother of Dragons’ whole “spoke on the wheel” speech is spoken with confidence, breaking that wheel is way easier said than done. Margaery Tyrell’s sneaky late night visits to Tommen Baratheon clearly pays off since we see her getting married to the young king, a ceremony in which we find Cersei watching very disapprovingly (surprise, surprise). Stannis plans to take Castle Black, the dangers of which worry Jon Snow enough to suggest a possible union between the Night’s Watch and the Wildlings. We also get quick shots of the Sand Snakes — Nymeria, Obara and Tyene — standing with Ellaria, Jaime Lannister fighting (for real) with his one attached hand, the always witty Bronn (who seems to be traveling with Jaime) adeptly swinging his sword towards an enemy, a bearded Tyrion, and, of course, dragons.
It’s a pretty packed clip and it does more than enough to get fans excited given what the video delivers. For now, we’ll have to be patient for the answers to whatever questions we have about Arya in Bravos, Sansa and her creeping relationship with Little Finger, what House Martell will do about Oberyn’s horrific death, and so forth, until April.
