For watch enthusiasts, movement is a big deal. And while quartz movements are used in the vast majority of watches you see today, mechanical movement still remains the holy grail of timepieces. However, the steep cost of entry for mechanical watches - due to the incredibly complex nature of building one – made them all but unobtainable for most people. Swatch changed all of that when they created the Sistem51, the first mechanical watch assembled using a fully automated process. Swatch’s innovative new design reduced the vast number of components usually required for a mechanical watch down to just 51, allowing it to be mass-produced and sold for an unheard of price of $150. And now, for the first time since it was introduced in 2013, Swatch is releasing five new designs for its revolutionary mechanical watch. The new Sistem51 models feature bold colorways in fushia and teal, along with new face designs that offer more classic looks compared to the original Sistem51’s uniquely abstract style. Pricing remains unchanged at $150 USD when they go on sale February 23. If you’ve been looking to add a mechanical timepiece to your collection, Swatch is making sure your timing couldn’t be better.
