Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates Team up to Invest in Clean Energy Technology
An initiative that will work closely with Mission Innovation, a second program spearheaded by Gates and President Obama.
In a monumental collaboration, the founders of Facebook and Microsoft are teaming up to bring an end to climate change. Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of Breakthrough Energy Coalition today, an endeavor joined by his wife Priscilla Chan and Bill Gates, to invest in zero-carbon energy technology accessible in all parts of the world. Among its ranks is an impressive membership roster that includes Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos, Jack Ma and Masayoshi Son. The communiqué coincides with the U.N. Climate Control Conference, which will take place in Paris this week.
A second announcement is set to be publicized at the event, one in which Gates and U.S. President Barack Obama are expected to announce Mission Innovation, a new initiative to work with governments in doubling investments for energy research over the next five years. Although Mission Innovation and the Breakthrough Energy Coalition are two separate programs, both will work closely together within countries committed to reducing carbon emissions.
