Instagram Blames Apple for Severe Anti-Nudity Restrictions
#freethenipple

In a recent report by Business Insider, Instagram CEO and Co-Founder Kevyn Systrom blames Apple for the app’s strict guidelines pertaining to nudity. According to Systrom, the restrictions can’t be changed due to Apple’s age rating system. If Instagram wants to stay within its current 12+ category, explicit content is strictly prohibited. This, of course, includes “nudity.” One of the main reasons that the #freethenipple campaign took off is because of the support of numerous celebrities towards the campaign, including Miley Cyrus, Chelsea Handler and Naomi Campbell.
Helping the campaign gain traction, proponents have voiced that there is a clear double standard when it comes to nudity – photos showing men’s nipples don’t get deleted, whereas photos of the female counterpart are quickly taken down by IG. Although the issue is still under heavy debate, it’s unclear if Apple’s restrictions are going to ease up any time soon.
