Since TLC reunited, they’ve performed at award shows, had a biopic made, toured the word, and now finally the R&B group has officially confirmed the release of a new album, which will be funded through Kickstarter. Not only will this be the first record since 2002’s 3D, but it will also be the first without the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and their final one, so the news does come as bittersweet for the fans.
The choice to use a crowdfunding campaign may raise a few eyebrows considering that TLC probably could have easily gotten financing from just about any music label that’d be interested in cashing in on their return. According to their Kickstarter page, T-Boz and Chilli revealed that the reason behind having the public back the project is to retain full creative control: “It is ESSENTIAL that we create our final album completely on our own terms, without any restrictions, with YOU.”
Those who make a pledge will certainly reap the benefits. Rewards include signed vinyls, handwritten and autographed lyrics, a workout with Chilli, a slumber party with T-Boz, and more. Head over to their Kickstarter page now if you’re interested in lending your support.
