With countless resorts, shopping destinations, as well as ancient and modern attractions to choose from, Dubai has become an increasingly popular tourist destination over the recent decade. As a result the influx of streetwear and the sneaker game in particular, has culminated into the annual Sole DXB – an event and platform catered toward footwear, fashion and design culture in the Middle East. “Raw Metropolis” is a short documentary that explores how Dubai is finding its identity through various stylistic expressions from both its residents and visitors, and is comprised of a series of video portraits making up a film that captures the influence of street style in one of the world’s newest urban centers. Written and directed by Amirah Tajdin of Seven Thirty Films, “Raw Metropolis” was filmed during Sole DXB over the course of two days at the Dubai Design District which served as the event’s backdrop. Featuring the likes of ALIFE, Olaf Hussein, Guillaume Philibert, Daily Paper, and the Sole DXB founders just to name a few, the full documentary will be released on Vimeo, following a screening in Dubai on February 18.
