It’s almost nine years since the death of legendary beatmaker-rapper J Dilla, but his legacy lives on stronger than ever. This has been demonstrated by both his posthumous releases as well as his sound, which is constantly emulated by today’s producers. Perhaps Dilla’s biggest fan is a YouTube user going by the moniker Houston Loves J Dilla, who had just released a masterfully edited 44-minute-long video that covers every track of Jay Dee’s acclaimed album Donuts. The YouTuber digs up video accompaniments most of the samples used throughout the record, and for the sounds where the video samples can’t be found, he compiles together thematically relevant clips. Check the video above and listen to Dilla in sort of a new way.
