Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing takes cues from youthful contemporary evening wear for his upcoming Fall/Winter 2015 collection at the iconic French fashion house. Inspired by what the designer dubs the “new aristocrats,” Balmain’s latest drop is meant to reference the way in which today’s youth “confidently blend together looks pulled from both their fathers’ wardrobes and the streets.” The result is an energetic and creative mix of classics, fluidity and hip-hop stylings with a couture spin on beanies, drop-crotch pants and motorcycle jackets. Here, Rousteing moves away from the casual jerseys and knits of this spring’s collection, turning instead to more “regal” fabrics like velvet, silk and cashmere, but coupling them with relaxed cuts and oversized silhouettes to maintain the same easy vibe while also retaining a modern, masculine profile.
