For the single for his forthcoming sophomore LP, Theophilus London went to the legendary Karl Lagerfeld for art direction. The Brooklyn rapper paired up with Lagerfeld for the track’s cover art, which was shot at Lagerfeld’s studio in Paris. Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily about the whole process, London gave the following statements:
“[My agent] called me with Karl on speaker and Karl was like, ‘Yes, I’ll shoot your cover…I was freaking out, screaming. I was like a kid. I’ve always admired him. He’s a genius in so many different ways…I wanted to just shoot for the stars.”
“His whole schedule is booked up for the next three years and he was only free for two hours, so we made it work. He brought all the ideas to the shoot. His handwriting is even on the cover.”
The single, entitled “Tribe,” is set to be released on iTunes this coming Tuesday, September 2. You can check out a photo of the single’s cover art below.
