Silicon Valley-based robotics company Savioke have unveiled their SaviOne service robot designed for the hospitality industry. This delivery robot has been dispatched at the Aloft hotel in Cupertino, California where it will carry out delivery tasks for snacks and amenities in the front and the back of the house. The A.L.O. robotic butler is approximately three feet tall, weighs less than 100 pounds, and has a carrying capacity of two cubic feet. When the robot arrives at the designated hotel room it phones the guest to make its arrival known. An onboard camera allows the A.L.O. to determine once the guest has opened the hotel door, and then proceeds to unlock, and open its lid. Instructions on the screen will guide the guests to remove the item and close the lid. A combination of sensors and WiFi/4G connectivity allows the robot to communicate with the hotel and the elevator software, to ensure safe and accurate navigation between floors and rooms. Check out the video of the SaviOne in action.
