Charli XCX has taken to Buzzfeed to announce the coming of her new album, Sucker, and release the first track from the album. Sucker will be released October 21 through Neon Gold/Atlantic, while her new song, “Break The Rules,” makes up the project’s first single. According to the 22-year-old pop songstress, she received the inspiration for “Break the Rules” from the music she was listening to while in Sweden. Speaking to Buzzfeed, she said the following regarding the single:
“I spent about a month making a punk record and covering songs by Swedish punk bands like Snuffed By The Yakuza and stuff. This song was written when I came out of the other side of that punk phase and translated it into something more pop. Obviously, it’s about not giving a f*ck.”
You can listen to “Break The Rules” below. The popstar-to-be has already tweeted out that the video is finished, so expect a visual for the track soon.
