Since bursting onto the scene in 2010 with the likes of Kaytra DaMouse and Weather Report, Montreal native Kaytranada has become one of the most sought-after producers of 2014 thanks to his eclectic fusion of disco, hip-hop, house and R&B sounds. Our friends over at HYPETRAK recently caught up with the 21-year-old as he hit Hong Kong to play Bibo and Cliché Records’ Art Basel Hong Kong celebration. The ensuing conversation sees the young musician touching on everything from his new EP on XL Recordings and his situation with Soulection to his personal playlist, the secrets of Brazilian music, and even the controversy that surrounded his 2013 HYPETRAK Mix, INSTRUMENTAL HIP HOP IS DEAD. Check out the three-minute piece above and be sure to take a listen to Kaytranada’s latest project, Whatever, here.
