A symbol of elegance and tradition, the Louis Vuitton monogram will soon receive six makeovers by a select group of creatives for the brand’s The Icon and The Iconoclasts project. Including Christian Louboutin, photographer/filmmaker Cindy Sherman, Frank Gehry, Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Newson and Rei Kawakubo, the six artists – all revered in their own craft – have been given creative control in designing a special piece of luggage using the iconic monogram, whilst keeping in line with LV’s “spirit of innovation, collaboration and daring.” In discussing their choices, Executive VP Delphine Arnault said “we simply went to those who are among the best in their fields. We were interested in people who work with their minds and their hands.” Chairman and CEO Michael Burke adds, “[The] monogram is timeless, yet with this project we wanted to celebrate it in a way that defied the conventions of ‘classic.’”
The Icon and The Iconoclasts project is expected to launch later this fall, so stay tuned for any future updates.
