Coinciding with the birth of the legendary sportswear brand’s iconic Trefoil logo, 1972′s SL 72 represented a unique departure from the sporting silhouettes typically crafted by adidas. Meant not for running or training, the footwear was specifically intended to be worn away from the track, court and field and was aptly introduced on home soil as a “podium shoe” for the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in Munich. Paying homage to that design – and its OG colorway – is the upcoming “SL 72″ edition of the SL Loop Runner. Unlike the bold colorways and patterns brought forth by the in-line versions of the new silhouette, the “SL 72″ edition adopts a decidedly retro feel, pairing beautifully blue mesh, leather and suede with gold foil text, white Three Stripes branding, and a dash of red. Limited to just 200 pairs worldwide, the SL Loop Runner “SL 72″ will soon be available at select adidas Originals retailers.
