Guy Aroch Takes an Abstracted Look at the Thigh Gap Obsession in "The Magic Gap"

For the latest installment of the #DefineBeauty series “Beyond the Skin,” photographer Guy Aroch took to the streets of New York and turned his lens toward one of the latest bodily obsessions: the thigh gap. Entitled “The Magic Gap,” the abstract NOWNESS piece envisions a 1970s-hued Big Apple dreamscape as Aroch looks to diffuse the controversial topic with his own signature sun-drenched touch. Enlisting the help of models like Chanel Iman, Gigi Hadid, Alyssa Miller and Elsa Hosk, Aroch took a voyeuristic approach, pairing depictions of the sensation – which, apparently, has everything to do with pelvic shape and tendon length – with definitions from various SoHo and Central Park passersby of “the magic gap.”
