Just twenty-four hours after Nas releases the twentieth anniversary edition of his seminal album Illmatic, the Queens emcee will be at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival to premiere Time is Illmatic, a documentary centered on his 1994 magnum opus. The documentary is directed by One9 and written by Erik Parker, and according to the official description the piece will tell the album’s story “through the lens of rapper NAS and his bluesman father OLU DARA.” It will also examine the “socio-economic and cultural conditions” that provided inspiration for the project.
