After images of the vehicle leaked out to the public just a few short days ago, Honda took to the showroom floor at Geneva to officially unveil its Civic Type R Concept. Billed not as a high-performance road car, but as “a racing car for the road,” the aggressively-styled conceptualization is based on the Japanese manufacturer’s European-spec hatchback and is being positioned as a contender for the front-drive lap record – currently held by SEAT’s Leon Cupra – at the famed Nürburgring. Equipped with everything from a massive rear spoiler and enlarged grilles to hood vents, widened fenders, additional air outlets for optimal flow, and 20″ alloy wheels, the Type R Concept comes powered by the latest VTEC TURBO engine from Honda’s “Earth Dreams Technology” range – a turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine capable of 276 horsepower. Check out the stylish grand unveiling below – alongside some thoughts from the vehicle’s chief stylist – and stay tuned for a closer look and additional info on Honda’s newest Civic concept.
