While The 1975, Chance the Rapper, Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé, A$AP Rocky and Skrillex were among the winners of the 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards, it was Drake who was the man of the night. The OVO Sound star took home the “Woodie of the Year,” the award given to the year’s top artist. The reason according to mtvU? He released his critically acclaimed third studio album and appeared on just about every major hip-hop track of last year, and mtvU decided to honor Drake by giving him the biggest award of the night, Woodie of the Year, which celebrates “the artist that completely owned the past 12 months.” The “2014 mtvU Woodie Awards Special,” which took place at SXSW Music Festival, will air on Sunday March 16 at 8PM ET on MTV, with performances from Childish Gambino, Danny Brown, Iggy Azalea, Steve Aoki and The 1975.
