The British version of the GRAMMYs — the BRIT Awards — have concluded moments ago. The list of winners includes Ellie Goulding, winning best British female. One Direction, receiving the global success award for the second year running, thanks to their record-breaking overseas sales. Daft Punk were named best international group but didn’t show up to the ceremony. Nile Rodgers accepted it on their behalf. Lorde won best international female solo artist while Bruno Mars took home best international male. David Bowie capped his surprise musical comeback by winning best British male. Kate Moss accepted it on his behalf, reading a bizarre message that involved a plea for Scotland to not go independent. Arctic Monkeys have won the BRIT Award for British Group and British Album of the Year, with Alex Turner delivering an acceptance speech that included a poem about the immortality of rock and roll as well as a supremely dramatic mic drop.
The 2014 BRIT Awards also included performances by Beyoncé, Arctic Monkeys, and a collaboration between Lorde and Disclosure. Pharrell Williams closed the show, teaming with Nile Rodgers for a medley of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”, Chic’s “Good Times”, and his own single “Happy.” See the live sets below.
