Skateboards Fitted with Prayer Rugs by Mounir Fatmi at Miami UNTITLED Art FairFor his latest exhibition at the UNTITLED Art Fair in Miami, Moroccan-born artist Mounir
For his latest exhibition at the UNTITLED Art Fair in Miami, Moroccan-born artist Mounir Fatmi deconstructed two separate objects – skateboards and prayer rugs — reappropraited them, and put them on front-row display. Featuring rugs used during Islamic prayer, Fatmi touches on the meaning behind desecrating religious objects via simple acts. The exhibition sees numerous skateboards decorated in ornate, luxurious fabrics and scattered around a space, seemingly giving new meaning to both objects.
