A new cloth that gives off a permanent smell of whisky has been created by Heriot Watt University’s School of Textiles and Design in Edinburgh and Galashiels. The “Aqua Alba” scent has been developed for Johnnie Walker Black Label and Harris Tweed Hebrides, to replicate the aromas released from a glass of whisky. This innovative fabric incorporates a micro-encapsulated fragrance which smells like, “rich malt, golden vanilla, red fruit and dark chocolate tones,” according to Johnnie Walker. This is the latest news in a fast-developing smart textile sector, with a first range of products using this fabric set to be unveiled in Berlin in the near future.
