Constructed back in 2011, the Recreational Island house by 2by4 Architects is something to be admired at any given time. Its simplicity in design, aesthetics, and function is what makes this Dutch home special and unique, not to mention the lakeside location and view made crystal clear by the construction’s glass and slide-away walls. Situated on a man-made island on Lake Loosdrechtse Plas in the Netherlands, the house boasts customization; its lakeside northern face opens up into a jetty for those warmer days where one feels the need to jump from inside one’s home to open water — naturally. Although only 100 meters in size, the Recreational Island House exudes space and still includes all your basic rooms and functions: shower, toilet, kitchen and storage.
