We already know you have been bumping Chris Brown‘s Loyal on repeat this past summer. The song was a hit for several reasons: it had a relatable theme, heavyweight features, strong melodies, and very importantly — very catchy production behind it. And no, it’s not assembled by DJ Mustard. For that, we have to give props to Bay Area-based, producer Nicholas Balding, known by his moniker as Nic Nac. This week we are glad to have the Bay Area native shares with us his essentials. Although producer by profession, Balding decides not to include too many of his beatsmith utilities this time around. Rather he mainly brandishes the lifestyle products that he more associates himself with, such as a bottle of his choice alcohol and a corkscrew to make sure he can open it he needs to. On the production side of things, Nic Nac holds it down with a laptop, a USB hub, a pair of trusty headphones and a small amp — basics that help him record down and broadcast song ideas when on-the-go.
