Investing In Artists Soon to Become Reality?
High-profile artists and celebrities may soon be getting even more of what they don’t need: money.
High-profile artists and celebrities may soon be getting even more of what they don’t need: money. According to The Hollywood Reporter, San Francisco-based CEO Buck French has developed a platform that will allow the public to, essentially, “invest” in an artist. Similar to investing in a company, people will be able to “sell interests tied to the income of a celebrity” via French’s trading exchange company Fantex. The proposed exchange would go down like this: Artist receives a large paycheck, Fantex is given access to the star’s earnings and, finally, Fantex offers shares to those interested in investing. There is a problem though, as investing in people presents a large uncertainty due to the fact that careers can be interrupted by countless unforeseen events. One thing is for certain, Fantex is about to get a whole lot of publicity. Stay tuned for more as this develops.
