Arguably the pinnacle of small-sized, high-powered European crossovers is the brand new GLA45 AMG from Mercedes-Benz. The fourth high-performance SUV from Benz’s Affalterbach-based outfit, the all-wheel-drive GLA45 AMG – set for a public debut next week at the Detroit Auto Show – packs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine capable of 355 horsepower, 332 lb-ft of torque, and acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds. Boasting a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the vehicle offers Manual, Sport and Comfort modes – not to mention a “Race Start” function, Curve Dynamic Assist to curb understeering, a variety of interior and wheel options, and even available sport tweaks to the suspension and exhaust.
