Pharrell Speaks on the "Blurred Lines" Lawsuit

Although the wrangling lawsuit between Marvin Gaye’s estate and Pharrell Williams over Robin Thicke’s summer hit “Blurred Lines” is ongoing, Williams wants to make it clear that he has unwavering respect for the soul icon. “I’m a huge fan of Marvin Gaye. He is a genius. He is the patriarch.” Pharrell said to the Associated Press. Moving onto the saga at hand, to which the producer collaborated with Robin Thicke on “Blurred Lines,” which has been identified by some by sounding akin to Gaye’s “Got to Give it Up.” Pharrell disputes that the two songs are nothing alike:

“If you read music, all you have to do is read the sheet music. It’s completely different; Marvin Gaye is the king of all kings, so let’s be clear about that. And we take our hats off to him. But anybody that plays music and reads music, just simply go to the piano and play the two. One’s minor and one’s major.
