This time last year, Poliça was one of the most talked-about new indie bands out, and for very good reason. With a critically-heralded debut album, standout performances at such festivals as SXSW, and major cosigns from the likes of Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon, the Minneapolis outfit made their mark on the scene in a major way. Luckily, we’re finally receiving their sophomore album this fall. The title is Shulamith and the first taste of it came a few months back in the form of “Tiff,” which features Vernon. Following up from the very strange music video for that song, Poliça has returned with the next single from the LP. This one, “Chain My Name,” is a bit dancier than what we’re used to from them, but that’s not necessarily a bad or surprising thing. Their music has been described in such terms as indie pop, psychedelic R&B, synthpop, experimental and more, so at this point, it’s probably best to not expect them to adhere to genre labels. If you like what you hear, head over to Poliça’s website to pre-order Shulamith, which is set to release on October 22 via Mom + Pop.
