It’s another Spike Lee Joint. The latest trailer from the celebrated director has officially been unveiled today and sees Lee remaking a 2003-Korean film, Oldboy. Originally directed by South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, Oldboy tells the story of Joe Doucette (played by Josh Brolin) who is detained for 20 years in a hotel-style prison by an unknown adversary. Doucette goes on to find out via a single television in his cell that he is suspected of murdering his wife and effectively ruining the relationship between himself and his only daughter. While certain changes to the original film’s plot have already been supposedly pointed out by certain critics, initial feedback thus far points at an otherwise well-executed remake of the original film by Spike Lee that possesses the same shock value and plot twists as the original.
