Continually influenced by art, architecture, and the vast subcultures of the English capital, London-based menswear designer Oliver Spencer unveiled his upcoming Spring/Summer 2014 collection at The Old Sorting Office on New Oxford Street during the third season of London Collections: MEN. Looking across the Atlantic and predominately inspired by the “suggestive dichotomies” of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Spencer’s latest designs reference the early graffiti art of the 1980s neo-expressionist painter with unique dying and bleaching techniques as faded red, amber, and sky blue dominate the seasonal palette alongside navy jacquards. Tailored suits showcase the designer’s continued commitment to intelligent and tailored craftsmanship while Basquiat’s influence is further highlighted by the likes of the suit’s “bleached graffiti” motif. Made in the UK, Spencer’s 2014 spring/summer collection will make its retail debut early next year.
