It looks like Balenciaga has taken offense to the less-than-flattering criticisms laid out by Nicolas Ghesquière as the Basque-born, Paris-based label is suing its former creative director. While the parties involved have yet to comment on the situation, the case is set to be heard in October by France’s Tribunal de Grande Instance and likely stems from comments Ghesquière made in the cover story for the first issue of biannual fashion publication System as Kering (who owns Balenciaga) filed legal charges against the designer for “breach of duty of confidentiality.” In the System interview, Ghesquière claimed “it started becoming a bureaucracy and gradually became more corporate, until it was no longer even linked to fashion” and that he “began to feel as though [he] was being sucked dry, like they wanted to steal [his] identity while trying to homogenize things,” claiming that working for the label was “one frustration after another.” Stay tuned as further details emerge ahead of the fall hearing.
