Hatmaker CA4LA presents this look into its production process as well as its history with this video titled “We make hats in JAPAN.” CA4LA, which is pronounced Kashira (4 is ‘shi’ in Japanese), was founded in 1997 in Nishinomiya located in Hyogo prefecture and used equipment passed down from a previous hat factory with itself 100 years of heritage. Covering the brand from three different vantage points, we get to see how the hats are brought to life starting at the aforementioned factory where the younger generation (new designers) works side-by-side with the older (experienced craftsman) to produce bases, the brand’s Harajuku headquarters where designers assemble the hats into finished products along with accessories, and finally the hatmaker’s Omotesando atelier where customers can make and wear home custom-made creations.
