SECOND/LAYER may have been born in a Venice, California basement studio, but the label takes to the streets for the second installment in its Fall/Winter 2013 video series. Filmed by Phillip R. Lopez, the clip highlights a handful of this season’s key pieces — a gabardine shawl collar long coat, structured long sleeve, gabardine folded trouser and cashmere blanket — that embody a “tailor made, non-gender bias form” with a sober aesthetic of “minimal Chicano.” What this translates to, roughly, is free-sized proportions, pure silhouettes and smart fabrications – elements shaped as a whole by the street attitude of SoCal’s less-affluent neighborhoods. It’s a formula that appears to be working well so far for the label. While the film’s protagonist appears to be caught in a cage of sorts, SECOND/LAYER seems to have broken free of obscurity with a successful showing at New York Fashion Week last month and a forward-thinking perspective that should bode well for the label’s future. Watch SECOND/LAYER’s Fall/Winter 2013 Video Series 002 above and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

HUF 2013 Spring Footwear Collection Delivery Two

HUF welcomed the new year with a noteworthy drop in skateboarding footwear, as the Pepper Pro made a debut via its first Spring dispatch. Now on it’s second wave of deliveries, we see the vulcanized constructed model receive all new hues. Elsewhere, the Hufnagel, Cooper and Hupper display leans towards clean-cut sensibilities. Meanwhile the Mateo and Genuine stand rebellious with “Fuck It!” and marijuana all-over prints decorating the canvas bodies, nodding at the brand’s bold West Coast motifs. Crafted with quality materials and season appropriate colorways over attractive designs, the second drop is now available via the HUF online store.
