Nina Simone‘s impact on jazz, R&B and pop music today has been frequently celebrated, and it is perhaps the ultimate shame that her contributions can no longer be experienced firsthand. The North Carolina-born singer is frequently cited for the strength of her voice, as well as her character — in addition to her musical accomplishments, Simone was also a committed civil rights activist. The Nina Simone estate today releases a previously unheard track, recorded at the artist’s Mount Vernon home in 1966. Originally set for a Dutch-only album release, the song finally sees the light of day. Enjoy.
