Levi’s recently hosted Frank Ocean as a guest performer at the commemorative 501, 140-year anniversary pre-Grammy party at Los Angeles’s Ace Museum. The event was housed intimately, sharing a space with an installation showcasing the history of the 501 jean via nearly a century and a half of visual documentation. Vintage jeans from various eras were displayed tying in to significant cultural happenings of the time, illustrating how central the style is to American history – from Marlon Brando bringing attention to the 501 during the mid ’50s and the acid wash craze of the ’80s up to today, when Levi’s released the timeless style in modern materials and colors. Frank’s set was filled with crowd-pleasing tracks including “American Wedding,” “Crack Rock” and “Pyramids,” while attendees mingled with the likes of Tyler, the Creator, Alan Cumming, Macy Gray, Solange Knowles and more.
