Québec-based streetwear retailer Off The Hook previews the NeoNinja project with a lookbook that marries the photography of Vincent Tsang and the illustration skills of Jeremy Wirth. More than just a visual presentation of the items, the use of a comic-like style helps to drive home the feel of the collection and it certainly succeeds in achieving that. Consisting of a largely reserved and downplayed palette of blacks, greens and neutrals, the ‘urban ninja’ looks depicted draw from elements of military garb, sportswear, and street fashion with overarching values of anonymity and high functionality. As one of the possible translations for shinobi is “one that endures,” the lookbooks suggests a preparation for just about anything in the city…through incorporating black gloves, sunglasses, hoods and masks into an outfit while carrying a duffle bag (even if it’s from Porter) might leave the wearer just as suspicious-looking and misunderstood as their feudal brethren.
