Jamie N Commons - John The Revelator

Last week, we presented Jamie N Commons‘ unique take on The Throne’s Frank Ocean-assisted “No Church in the Wild” while also sharing his thoughts on the current state of the blues culture. Today, the up-and-coming singer-songwriter offers up further proof for his musical abilities that highlight soulful and modern approach of blues rock. The UK native takes on Blind Willie Johnson’s “John The Revelator” acapella style. Here’s what he said to say about his rendition:

“I’ve always been a big fan of acapella songs, the hardest thing to do as a singer I think, there’s no hiding. The song in the videos called ‘John The Revelator,’ the version I heard first was the Son House version, though I think Blind Willie Johnson recorded it first though in the 30’s… usually just a song I use to warm up before shows, but we had some time at the end of a live shoot so we decided to do a take… me and the band are working on a kinda Neil Young / Crazy Horse full band version at the moment, should be loud! “
