NAISSANCE designer Takashi Kumagai has spent the larger part of his career as a creative polymath of sorts. One of Japan’s leading photographers, the versatile Kumagai is also a renowned stylist, branding expert, avid surfer and shop designer for Saturdays Surf NYC. It’s only fitting then, that NAISSANCE channels the designer’s eclectic lifestyle, its classic blend of American and European aesthetics filtered through a uniquely Japanese design lens. Made for the man who needs his clothes to transition seamlessly from beach to sidewalk, the label’s new collection for Spring/Summer 2013 features nautically-inspired, easy silhouettes in seasonal hues. Standouts include a spring-ready coat in rust, a shawl-collared linen blazer in teal, and voluminously-cut shorts and trousers, each garment seemingly tailor-made for a weekend by the water. NAISSANCE’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection is available now online, with more pieces set to release in the coming weeks.
