Commemorating the 50th anniversary of TAG Heuer being the first Swiss timepiece in space, the latest release is based on a modified Heuer 2915A stopwatch worn by astronaut John Glenn in 1962. The new Carrera 1887 “SpaceX” differs from a standard Carrera 1887 in that it features custom hands on a starch white dial with anthracite colored markings. Inside, the watch features the Swiss company’s in-house 1887 calibre which is visible through the smoked-sapphire display case back. The display case sports an overlaid rendering of the SpaceX logo and SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launch rocket as well as the Dragon spacecraft. The new watch comes fitted on a distressed, perforated brown leather strap for a clean, elegant look. Available from October, the watch will be produced in a limited run of 2,012 pieces and will retail for $5,800 USD.
