Barbara Kruger "Belief + Doubt" Installation @ Hirshhorn Museum
Those easily overwhelmed or intimidated by heaps of words or open-ended questions need not concern

Those easily overwhelmed or intimidated by heaps of words or open-ended questions need not concern themselves with Barbara Kruger‘s “Belief + Doubt” Installation at Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. For others, Kruger’s transformation of the Lower Lobby and Museum Bookstore will have plenty for the eye and the little grey cells. Known for her photomontages and creating environments that envelope viewers with powerful text, Kruger has wrapped the space — including walls and floors — with text-printed vinyl; thought-provoking words and phrases that call into question notions of belief, power and democracy. Interested in “introducing doubt,” the artist devotes much of the space to unsettling, open-ended questions such as, “Who is beyond the law?” Especially appropriate at a time when America’s values have been questioned, Barbara Kruger’s “Belief + Doubt” Installation has as much to offer. The long-term installation will be open to the public on August 20, 2012, and will on display until 2014.
