After Nas proclaimed that Hip Hop Is Dead back in 2006, he found out it actually wasn’t when that album went No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart with 355,880 copies sold in its first week. Now, nearly six years later, it seems as though the genre is still alive and fruitful. Over 18 years and 10 albums after releasing his quintessential debut, Illmatic, the legendary MC has just scored his fifth chart-topper. After one week of sales, Life Is Good has beat out the likes of Frank Ocean’s channel ORANGE, Justin Bieber’s Believe and country group Zac Brown Band to hold the top spot on the prestigious Top 200 chart. Although the official sales tally for Life Is Good won’t be available until tomorrow morning, it should be very close to 139,402 as shown over at HITS Daily Double. That’s even more than what predictions last week projected. If you’ve yet to buy a copy, head over to iTunes or your nearest retailer now, or get a collector’s box set bundle over at Nas’s website.
