With his new album slowly but surely approaching, Steve Ellison, aka Flying Lotus, has opened up on his upcoming project – Until the Quiet Comes – which is slated for an October 2 release. In a conversation with Rolling Stone, FlyLo revealed that he has re-teamed up with Thom Yorke. Both artists have worked together in the past when the Radiohead frontman provided the vocals for “…And The World Laughs With You,” which appeared on Flying Lotus’s 2010 LP, Cosmogramma. While giving nothing but respect to Yorke, the Los Angeles-based producer also said that he took a more restrained, “grown-up” approach to the new LP.
“I definitely respect what he’s up to,” says Ellison. “But the biggest surprise to me in getting to know him is that he’s a funny guy. He’s the jokey one.
I feel like I had this maximalist mentality going into the last one, but with this one now I feel like I don’t have a problem holding back on some moments so bigger moments can shine through.”
In related news, Ellison played a last-minute set last weekend at the London club XOYO (as shown above). During his set, he was joined by The Weeknd, who performed at the Wireless Festival in Hyde Park that day. High times for FlyLo fans indeed.
