Questlove hopes D’Angelo’s recent appearance alongside him at Tennessee’s Bonnaroo Festival will convince the R&B icon to release his first LP in over 12 years. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Questlove stated that over 30 tracks had been recorded in recent years, many of them at New York City’s famed studio Electric Lady. “He is about to take a radical 180 turn with this record,” says Questlove. “It’s going to throw people off the same way that Prince’s Dirty Mind threw his R&B fan base off. In the past few years, he’s discovered Bowie and Zeppelin, the Beatles, Pet Sounds, Captain Beefheart and Zappa.”
